In Canada the snow season could last as long as 6 months in some region. For autonomous driving vehicles, having a good indication of road weather condition could help system adaptively adjust breaking system and driving speed (as what human do during the snow weather). There are two main categories (Bare and Covered) and five sub-categories (Bare dry, Bare Wet, Ice Covered, Snow Covered, Snow Packed) of road weather conditions. This project is focusing on using a regular dashboard camera instead of expensive binocular or polarization camera to perform the road weather classifications.
